Question by blue: should I learn spanish if i’m going to move to Costa Rica and live/retire/become citizen/buy-property there?
should I learn spanish if i’m going to move to Costa Rica and live/retire/become citizen/buy-property there? Should I bother? I”m terrible at languages and won’t learn it if I don’t have to. For example, you don’t need to learn any Indian langauges to live in India (just english)…do i need to learn spanish

Honestly, it is not as critical as you might think it is because of most times u live and you learn. It may be best to go ahead and study it while you can in order to navigate and communicate better with the people living and working there. Eventually you should pick up on their language depending on how long you will live there and how well your memory works.

Should my family move?

-

Question by Melissa: Should my family move?
We are so torn, and maybe it’s silly to seek the advice of strangers, but any advice is better than none! So if you have a moment, please read my situation and tell me what you think.

Husband and I moved from Vermont to Nevada on a whim 4 years ago. We always expected it to be temporary. Two years ago, we had our son. A year ago, my mom moved here from NY to be closer to her grandson (and us). It was a huge deal for her. She retired and left everyone and everything she ever know. She is also caring for her elderly, ill husband. I made it clear to her throughout the time we’ve been here, when she was considering moving, during her move, and still now, that we may move back to VT. She says she knows and would move too, if we do, but I don’t think she really ever believed we’ll do it.
I cry at night thinking I may never move back to VT. That’s the place I love, feel like is home, and want to raise my kids. But could I really make my mom move again after all she went through to relocate and start a new life here?
BTW, I like it here in NV, too. There’s so much to do. In fact, it may be a better place to be as a stay-at-home mother. There are always a million things to do with my son, we can be outside most of the year, and everything is closeby. VT is very different–isolated during the winter, everything takes a lot of driving to get to, and not as much to do. But VT has the best schools in the country, and lots of nature for my children to grow up in. VT and NV are too very different lifestyles. But truthfully, no matter how many pros and cons I consider for both places, both my husband and I know where we love and want to be is Vermont.
Thanks for any advice and opinions!
I’m not trying to prove anything to my mom. What I meant by “she doesn’t really believe we’d do it” is that I’m afraid she moved thinking it would be her last move ever, and she could really settle in and start a life here.

Want to move to Europe?

-

Question by Hyprnova: Want to move to Europe?
I am a 15 year old, Type 1 Diabetic, American male. I plan on moving to Europe (either the U.K. or one of the Scandinavian countries) after high school. I wish to study higher education there.
What do I need to know, in regards to applying for citizenship, college, health care (as I said above, type 1 diabetic, so that’s important), and anything else that applies to my standard of living?
I would like a response from either an ex-pat who lives in Europe now, or just an experienced European that knows what they are talking about.
I could care less how you feel about Europe vs. America, blah blah blah. I know Europe is not perfect, but I like it better than America. simple as that.

Move to Malaysia on the Malaysia My Second Home MM2H Program

-

The Malaysia My Second Home program, known as MM2H for short is an official Malaysian Government sponsored retirement program. There are some great incentives offered by the Malaysian Government to make your move and stay in Malaysia as comfortable as possible. You can apply two ways, 1. Via an authorised MM2H agent or 2. Directly to the Tourism Ministry. The advantage of using an agent is that they do all the work for you making your move to Malaysia as stress free as possible. If you would like to get a quote to join the program from an authorised agent, go to mm2h.net. If you would like to apply directly yourself, go to mm2h.gov.my

Retired military looking to move to the Philippines…?

-

Question by Storm: Retired military looking to move to the Philippines…?
I plan to retire from the military in 5 years as a Lt Col. I have traveled all around the world and am pretty sure I want to settle down in the Philippines (at least 6 months out of the year for the first couple of years). My questions are 1) Should I be able to live decent on 4K a year. 2) Should I invest in property now while I am still working or buy later (or possibly just rent). Owning property is such an American thing but if renting can serve my purposes without the headaches, I will gladly rent. I say I may only live there 6 months at a time but who knows.

I have a couple of properties here in the States and want to come up with a good 5-6 year plan if I am going to do this. I am planning to pay off one of my properties before I retire so I can add the rental income to my income (maybe another 1k). Also, if I am going to do this plan I will more than likely take an assignment in the Middle East my last year or two so that I can bank some more money.
I meant 4K a month

i don’t know about #1. but for #2, you could buy a condo unit and have it rented out when you’re not in the country.
