Question by byhisello99: Retired North American mainland expats in the Bahamas?
My firm is doing some work that may may benefit from skills possessed by retired North American mainland expatriates in the Bahamas. These skills are most likely found in retired managers or executives.
Where do I start looking? I can put an advert in the local papers, and may wind up doing so, but frankly I don’t have the time to sift through 500 e-mails or phone calls from every unemployed person in the islands.
Just need to know where to start looking. Thanks in advance.
I am seeking two specific skill sets, both of which take years to acquire. One is industry-specific, and the industry has only a few major players in the Bahamas. No one who has worked for any one of these players will be able to talk to the others. Hence, a retired expat, because the duties will include dealing with all of the major players.
The second skill set is one that has never before been used in the Bahamas. Ever. By anyone. Hence, a retired expat.
I am doing this on behalf of a Bahamian company, trying to generate new economic activity in the country. Getting any more specific in this forum will jeopardize my client’s proprietary information and open the door for competitors to seize opportunities uncovered by my client.
So, how do I get into this talent pool to start looking around?

You START by being PROFESSIONAL ENOUGH to take the time to sift through all those 500 e-mails or phone calls because YOU are the one needing help and there is just about no other way… It would also help if you weren’t so f#@King SELF IMPORTANT because those of us Ex-Pats in the Bahamas and Caribbean could not care LESS about what a BIG SHOT you THINK you are… Island people don’t have the time for ‘Managers’ who are LEGENDS IN THEIR OWN MINDS.
