The American Dream is JUST THAT: A DREAM. Does anyone else realize this?

Question by Sally Onetwothree: The American Dream is JUST THAT: A DREAM. Does anyone else realize this?
Am I the only one here who realizes how corrupt our country is?

Sure, other countries are corrupt as well, but the middle-class citizens actually benefit from it!

All our life is spent working for money. All our money is spent on needs. All our needs cause us endless stress until we either retire too old to have enjoyed life the way we would have as youth, or we die at our desks.

Does anyone else realize that other countries have maids? Good public transit? Good food, fun people, and true cultures? Free health care, longer vacations, less stress, less materialism.

We are taught that long-hours working makes you a respectable, good human being
We are taught to accept that working 9-5 until you are 50+ years old is just how it is and you need to accept it.
We are taught that our country is the country of opportunity, and that our country is the best in the world.

Our country is awful, and when I look around I see so many people working, working, and working. They work for a paycheck that just puts food on the table and cable on the tv, so they can watch it…and forget about their lives.

Am I the only one who realizes this? Who will not accept it, and will leave the country to escape it?

Please tell me I am not alone…

As an American Citizen living overseas do I have to claim a state for income tax purposes?

Question by jeannyg: As an American Citizen living overseas do I have to claim a state for income tax purposes?

Best answer:

Answer by ravioli68
As the resident for a state, you will be required to have state income tax withholding. At any point you break residence with that state (i.e. no longer voting in that state, sold house, no longer have driver;s licence), you should inform your employer so that they do not continue to withhold income tax for that state.

Question by Will: Can I own property in the Philippines as an American citizen?
My mother, who is a Phillippine citizen wants to give me her piece of land because she knows I want to retire there. I know I can go there as “balik bayan” because my mother is Filipino and stay for a year versus 21 days, but owning property, I’m not sure.
