What would be the most economical boat to live on after retirement?

-

Question by russianheman: What would be the most economical boat to live on after retirement?
I plan to buy and live on a boat after I retire with my wife. I want to be able to travel on open ocean waters without problems and enough room to live comfortably. I’ve researched quite a bit–it seems a catamaran sailboat would be the most economical without compromising too much space. Your input is appreciated.

Boats and water there are always problems Cats are to wide for dockage in marinas. Best try and charter some different boats till U BOTH fine the 1 that fits U BOTH as there are a lot of divorces when boats and cruising come together. I have a 48 Sportfish and like it very Much. Had sail and cruised for 8yrs. Not again. To much work.Either it fuel or sails and both have there disadvantages and happiness.Take courses so U have a heads up before the deep plunge.

What specifically are the tax benefits/liabilities of selling real estate either before or after retirement?

-

Question by Dave: What specifically are the tax benefits/liabilities of selling real estate either before or after retirement?
I heard it would be more beneficial to sell real estate before I retire as opposed to after. What do I stand to gain, or what do I stand to lose if I keep the property and sell it after I retire?

Best answer:

Answer by ed
None, unless you realize a “huge Capital Gain”.

Any taxable gains is added to your current year income.
This would be less after retirement.

Who should be getting my Dad’s retirement after his death?

-

Question by Donovan: Who should be getting my Dad’s retirement after his death?
My dad was a teacher in CA for 40 years. He retired several years ago and was getting about 00 a month in retirement. He died last year and his retirement has been going to his “wife”. They had been legally separated for over a year. My brother feels that we should be entitled to that money, but I’m not sure.
Remember when answering this question that they had signed legal documents that they were separated and their finances were seperate. She was safe from paying his bills when he passed but she collects the retirement.

If they were still legally married at the time of his death, it would go to his wife. Talk to a lawyer about whether or not you can contest that.

Can garnishments continue into retirement or after filing bankruptsy?

-

Question by Copper Head: Can garnishments continue into retirement or after filing bankruptsy?
If you have garnishments when you retire will they take it out of your non social security pension or if you have to file bankruptsy because you can’t make it what happens to the garnishments then?

Best answer:

Answer by Scotto
depending on the type of garnishment. Also since there was already a decision against you to set up the garnishment, you might not be able to “clear” it with a bankruptcy.

Just because you decide to “retire” doesn’t change what you owe, so they will get their money from somewhere. It may come down to you not being able to Retire, due to what you owe.
